A week-long Educational Sports Camp  Children with Visual Impairments 
Summer 2021 Dates: June 27th-July 3rd!


Staff

Camp Abilities Brockport is administered and managed by a variety of staff who devote a tremendous amount of time, energy, effort, and other resources each year to ensure that camp is always a success for not only the athletes who attend but everyone else involved as well. Current camp staff are detailed below along with a brief history. You may contact us at any time.

Director - Lauren Lieberman
  • Lauren Lieberman, PhD, earned her doctorate in adapted physical education at Oregon State University with an emphasis on sensory impairments. She taught at Perkins School for the Blind. Lieberman is currently a professor and teaches APE at The College at Brockport, State University of New York. She has co-authored several books including: Strategies for Inclusion, Games for People with Sensory Impairments, Going Places: Transition Guidelines for Physical Activity for Children with Visual Impairments, Paraeducators in Physical Education, and continues to do research in this area. Click here to view Lauren's vitae.

Assistant Director - Alex Stribing
​​Alex Stribing, PhD, earned her bachelor's and Master's degree from the College at Brockport in Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education. Alex was the Camp Abilities Brockport graduate assistant during her masters program in 2015-2017. She obtained her Ph.D in in Motor Behavior and Special Education at The University of South Carolina.  Her research interests are in the field of visual impairment focusing on self, parent and meta-perceptions. 

Graduate Assistants


Kelsey Sammon
Kelsey Sammon earned a Bachelors degree in Physical Education from the College at Brockport, State University of New York in Spring 2019. Kelsey was member of the College at Brockport's Women's Soccer team. She will be starting her first semester as the Camp Abilities Graduate Assistant.Kelsey is working toward a Master's degree in Adapted Physical Education and will graduate in May 2021. Kelsey has worked at Camp Abilities Brockport and Camp Abilities at Lions Camp Badger.

​Cristina Iannacchino
Cristina earned a Bachelors degree in Physical Education from the College at Brockport, State University of New York in Spring 2020.  She was the secretary of the PE majors club at the College at Brockport.  She has worked as a coach at Camp Abilities Brockport.  She is starting her first semester as the Camp Abilities Graduate Assistant, and is working towards getting her masters in Adapted Physical Education and will graduate in May 2022. 

Peter Riefenberg
Peter Rifenburg is an undergraduate student at the College at Brockport, studying Physical Education with a concentration in Adapted Physical Education. He has been to camp for four years. He has helped out at Camp Abilities Brockport and Saratoga. He is also an Ironman triathlete, and his favorite camp activity is goalball.

Volunteers are pooled from physical education and special education undergraduate and graduate programs across the United States and overseas. Volunteers can click here if they are interested in becoming a counselor for the upcoming camp.
