A week-long Educational Sports Camp  Children with Visual Impairments 
Summer 2023 Dates: June 25th- July 1st


Staff

Camp Abilities Brockport is administered and managed by a variety of staff who devote a tremendous amount of time, energy, effort, and other resources each year to ensure that camp is always a success for not only the athletes who attend but everyone else involved as well. Director - Lauren Lieberman
  • Lauren Lieberman, PhD, earned her doctorate in adapted physical education at Oregon State University with an emphasis on sensory impairments. She taught at Perkins School for the Blind. Lieberman is currently a professor and teaches APE at The College at Brockport, State University of New York. She has co-authored several books including: Strategies for Inclusion, Games for People with Sensory Impairments, Going Places: Transition Guidelines for Physical Activity for Children with Visual Impairments, Paraeducators in Physical Education, and continues to do research in this area. Click here to view Lauren's vitae.

Assistant Director - Alex Stribing
​​Alex Stribing, PhD, earned her bachelor's and Master's degree from the College at Brockport in Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education. Alex was the Camp Abilities Brockport graduate assistant during her masters program in 2015-2017. She obtained her Ph.D in in Motor Behavior and Special Education at The University of South Carolina.  Her research interests are in the field of visual impairment focusing on self, parent and meta-perceptions. 

Graduate Assistants

Kyle Tirone
Kyle earned a Bachelors degree in Physical Education from the College at Brockport in Fall 2020 and is starting his second year as a Camp Abilities Graduate Assistant. He was the Adapted rep for the PE majors club at the College at Brockport. He is working towards getting his masters in Adapted Physical Education and will graduate in May 2023. 

Liz Spencer
Liz earned a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education with a concentration in outdoor adventure education from SUNY Cortland in May 2022. She is in her first year as a Camp Abilities Graduate Assistant. Liz will graduate from the Adapted Physical Education program with her Master's degree from Brockport in May 2024.

Cody Conte
Cody earned a Bachelor's degree in Health & Physical Education from Ithaca College in spring 2020. He is a former collegiate swimming both at Ithaca and Brockport. He is currently serving as the Lavelle graduate assistant. Cody will graduate from the Adapted Physical Education program with his Master's degree from Brockport in May 2023.

Volunteers are pooled from physical education and special education undergraduate and graduate programs across the United States and overseas. Volunteers can click here if they are interested in becoming a counselor for the upcoming camp.
